The production of agriculture is more of an income than that of anything that can come from the Amazon, and the poor farmers see this as a helpful profit.
The rainforest has another problem to look out for. Road Construction. Government is ordering the construction of roads, to be used to access the timber and mining resources that the wonderous rainforest can provide, and for settlement. This is a problem, not only because even more deforestation is occurring, but because people taking the natural resources from the forest will cause the forest to lose the abundance of that resource, which can be harmful to the animal and plant species. Also, with settlement becomes more settlement. What happens when there is no more forest left? FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! The majority of deforestation is done by fire, during the dry, three month 'burning season'. Yes the fire is clearing the forest, but has it been considered that the problems along with the destruction may have an even greater impact? The smoke from these large fires causes airport closings and hospitalizations from smoke inhalation. Fires and climate are having a major problem in the Amazon. Recent studies show that the rainforest is suggested to be losing its ability to remain green all year due to the dangerous flammability caused by forest degradation and drought. If fires continue, there is a fear that over 50% of the rainforest could go up in smoke.
